Included at this stage are Australia's considerable achievements in Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, Tour de France, Australian Championships and State results as far as we have been able to gain access to them. All the results are searchable by name, year, type of event, etc. and we welcome suggestions for improvement. Olympic
Games MedalsAustralia's first cycling Olympic medal was achieved by E "Dunc" Gray in 1928. This was a track Bronze medal in the 1000m Time Trial. Dunc followed this up with a Gold in the same event at the 1932 Games. In all, Australia has won a total of 31 Olympic medals (7 Gold, 13 Silver and 11 Bronze - 26 Male and 5 Female). Commonwealth Games Medals Australia has competed in all Commonwealth Games cycling events since they started in 1934, collecting 54 gold medals or more than half the total on offer. The legendary names of Russell Mockridge and Dunc Gray spring out from the early days, with a whole host of familiar names from more recent times, including our golden women Kathy Watt, Anna Millward (nee Wilson), and Alayna Burns. Tour de France Whilst the Tour de France had its beginnings in 1903, the first Australians to compete were Don Kirkham and Ivor Munro in 1914, finishing a very creditable 17th and 20th respectively. In all, 25 Aussies have competed over the years, making a total of 66 appearances. Phil Anderson was our most regular competitor, finishing all of his 13 races over a period of 14 years from 1981 to 1994, and achieving 5th place on two occasions. Our records show all the riders and their individual placings and coveted stage wins, including Robbie McEwan's triumph in the Green Jersey competition in 2002. |
